Dylann Roof Faces Death Sentence
On Tuesday, January 10th, Dylann Roof was sentenced to death by a twelve-person federal jury. Roof is the defendant in an ongoing and very public trial in which he was found guilty of more than eighteen counts of murder and hate crimes for the shooting of nine people at an African-American church. A self-declared white supremacist, Roof chose to represent himself in court, but plans to file a motion for lawyers now that the jury has decided on the death penalty. Some of Roof’s former attorneys put together a statement following the decision, in which they acknowledged that the death penalty ruling will serve to further extend the case.
