Obama Bids Farewell
On January 10th in Chicago, his hometown, President Obama delivered his farewell address, closing his eight years in the oval office. He began by remembering the “great gift” given to us by the Founders – “the freedom to chase our individual dreams through our sweat and toil and imagination, and the imperative to strive together, as well, to achieve a common good, a greater good,” even if the progress has been uneven. His recap of his accomplishment during his tenure also looked forward to what the greater good could be. He called for embracing immigration, expanding human rights, providing education, strengthening solidarity, and combatting climate change. Before thanking the first lady, VP, and a few others, President Obama impressed upon listeners that “democracy is threatened whenever we take it for granted.”
