CNN uncovered Monday that the biggest Black Lives Matter page on Facebook is fake. The page titled “Black Lives Matter” had close to 700,000 followers and raised over $100,000 towards Black Lives Matter causes in the US, but some of that money was transferred to Australian bank accounts belonging to a middle-aged white man. The CNN investigation reviewed associated accounts and reviews of the Facebook page and contacted PayPal and Patreon to suspend the fundraising campaigns. Facebook finally suspended the account after a week of communication with CNN. The network also revealed that Patrisse Cullors, a co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, contacted Facebook about removing the page because she suspected it was a scam “a few months ago.”
