John Bolton to Replace McMaster as National Security Advisor
President Trump named former UN Ambassador John R. Bolton as his third national security advisor via tweet on Thursday. Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster will step down from the position as Bolton will take office on April 9th. This follows the president replacing Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with former CIA director, Mike Pompeo, last week, leading to uncertainty regarding the future foreign policy approach of the Trump administration. Bolton has advocated for use of military force in Iran and North Korea in the past but was unwilling to answer questions regarding these issues during an interview following the announcement of his appointment to the position.
