'Sex and the City' Star Runs for Governor of NY

Cynthia Nixon, the actress famous for playing Miranda Hobbes on “Sex and the City,” has entered the race for governor of New York, challenging two-term Governor Andrew Cuomo. She announced her candidacy on Monday and kicked off her campaign on Tuesday in Brooklyn, to which she was almost late, blaming her tardiness on subway trouble. Nixon has faced backlash due to her celebrity, with former New York City council speaker Christine Quinn calling her an “unqualified lesbian.” Nixon and Cuomo will face off in the Democratic primary in September.
