The Weinstein Company plans to file for bankruptcy after a sale fell through. The film and television studio announced Monday that the sale of the Weinstein Company to Maria Contreras-Sweet and Ron Burkle fell apart due to issues of funding, which the studio needed for its employees. According to a letter from the company, they will be preparing to file within the coming days "with the goals of achieving maximum value in court." This announcement comes a couple weeks after the New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman filed a civil rights lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, his brother and their company.
