UN Security Council Adopts Ceasefire Resolution
The UN Security Council adopted a resolution calling for a 30-day ceasefire in Syria by a unanimous vote on Saturday. The truce is meant to allow evacuation of the wounded and emergency aid for some areas. With Russia being a strong ally for Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, US Ambassador Nikki Haley had to put pressure Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia to receive all the votes needed to pass the revolution. However, observers stated that airstrikes targeted the town of Shifouniya on Saturday night, and the Syrian Ambassador said the regime would still attack terrorist groups on their soil.
