Government to Investigate Apple for Slowing Down iPhones
After news of Apple’s using software updates to slow down older iPhone models surfaced last month, the U.S. government is now beginning to investigate Apple for possible violations of securities laws. The Department of Justice and the Securities Exchange Commission are said to be the government agencies inquiring, but the DOJ, SEC, and Apple have not specified themselves. Apple dropped the price of battery replacements and said it used the software to ‘smooth out’ power demands and prevent old batteries from shutting down. This inquiry heeds consumer groups and government authorities’ calls for better transparency with the issue.
