CDC Director Steps Down
Some surprising news came from the healthcare industry on Wednesday when Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald resigned as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Fitzgerald’s departure comes just a day after Politico reported on her purchase of tobacco stock after she took her position at the CDC, which is an obvious contradiction to the CDC’s mission. America is currently grappling with one of the largest flu outbreaks in years, as 37 children have died from the flu this year alone. The CDC, as a result, has been extra busy this year, making yesterday’s news coming at a rather inconvenient time. Luckily, public health experts do not believe there will be any substantial disruptions in the agency’s response to this drastic flu outbreak.
