Trump May Have Tried To Fire Mueller
President Trump may have tried to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller last June. According to a New York Times report from last week, the President instructed White House Lawyer Don McGahn to fire Mueller but backed down after McGahn threatened to resign. Trump has been at odds with the Mueller investigation, as it probes possible collusion between his campaign and Russia as well as an obstruction of justice case. The findings could cause serious political damage for Donald Trump. For months, a bill to protect Robert Mueller from being fired has floated through Congress. Many Democrats expressed new urgency for a bill while some Republicans have dismissed the need, citing the fact that President Trump has not fired Mueller. But across the aisle there is worry that the President may have tried to obstruct justice by firing Mueller while already under investigation for obstruction of justice in firing James Comey.
