On Friday, September 22nd, the U.S. lead an airstrike in Libya. The drone strike that occurred on Friday struck an ISIS training camp, killing 17 militants and destroying 3 vehicles. The strike was authorized by President Trump and encouraged by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. Pentagon Africa Command claimed that at the camp, ISIS was stockpiling weapons and planning future attacks. The strike was announced on Sunday, September 24th. From August to December of 2016, then-President Obama instigated 495 airstrikes in Libya. He also authorized an attack in January before leaving office that killed another 80 militants plotting terrorist attacks in Europe. Despite the hits it’s taken, ISIS is still a major threat to the region.
