Scout Schultz, 21 year old student at Georgia Tech and president of the university’s Pride Alliance, was killed by campus police on Saturday night. A 911 call was made on Saturday alleging that a suspicious person, who was holding a knife and possibly a gun, had been seen on campus. Georgia Tech Police responded and found Schultz outside a dorm building, apparently disoriented and distressed, and holding a knife. After Police repeatedly asked Schultz to drop the weapon, the student took a step forward, which is when an officer opened fire. It was later reported that the initial 911 call was actually made by Schultz earlier that night. A vigil was held for Schultz on Monday, which initially ended peacefully, but violence erupted after protesters showed up at the Georgia Tech Police station and a patrol car was set on fire.
