Zika Birth Defects Strike US
Even though it may appear that the Zika virus is a problem exclusive to South America, it now looks like the virus is beginning to make more of an impact here in America. According to a report released yesterday from top health officials, 1 in 10 pregnant American women with confirmed cases of Zika gave birth to a child with virus-related birth defects in 2016. Some of the birth defects include small heads, brain damage, and restricted joint movement in newborn babies. The Centers for Disease Control stated the importance for pregnant women to continue taking steps to prevent Zika virus exposure.
