Arkansas put Ledell Lee to death last week, completing the state’s first execution in more than a decade. Due to the upcoming expiration date of the lethal injection drugs used in execution, Arkansas has also planned to put 3 more men to death by the end of the month. The Supreme Court stalled some of the rushed executions earlier this month, but Lee's was approved. The death of Mr. Lee created an immediate response. “Today is a shameful day for Arkansas, which is callously rushing the judicial process by treating human beings as though they have a sell-by date,” Amnesty International said in a statement. On the other hand, J.R. Davis, speaking on behalf of Gov. Asa Hutchinson, said: “It’s a moment of reflection, but at the end of the night, the right thing was done.”
