It's a Yes from Turkey
A referendum passed in Turkey on Sunday giving the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, multiple new powers. The referendum passed by 1.25 million votes, with about 600,000 yet to be counted. The new powers that Erdogan is granted with this referendum include ability to serve as president until 2029 if he is re-elected, get rid of the prime minister and transfer those powers to the president, and appoint the judges whose job is to keep the president in check. The narrow margin that the referendum was passed by was surprising to the global community because of the fearful atmosphere Erdogan had created in Turkey before the vote.
