Beauty and the Ban
The tale may be old as time, but one Alabama theatre is refusing to show the new live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast over a ‘gay moment.' In a message on the Henagar Drive-In Theatre’s Facebook page, the owners stated that it was with great sorrow they will not be showing the new movie. Following Director Bill Condon’s words, Gaston’s sidekick LeFou is said to be “Disney's first, unambiguously gay character”. The Alabama drive-in says to the news “If I can't sit through a movie with God or Jesus sitting by me then we have no business showing it.” The choice has drawn both support and opposition, but continues to be a beast of an issue. The much anticipated movie is set to open on March 17th, and features Harry Potter star Emma Watson.
