Nuke Rebuke "Unrealistic"
A United Nations discussion on the possibility of a legally-binding ban on nuclear weapons was met with sharp criticism on Monday. Despite nearly 120 countries endorsing a plan to halt nuclear weapons, the United States, France, and Britain were among those who skipped a meeting discussing the subject. US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley argued that although a world without nuclear weapons would be more secure, the proposed ban is simply not realistic and could lead to the weapons ending up in the wrong hands. The treaty was initially proposed in October, but was voted against or abstained by nearly every nation that has nuclear weapons, however many still remain committed to the 1970 Non-Proliferation Treaty which is aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons and related technology.
