Rock Legend Chuck Berry Dies
Once dubbed the “Alpha and Omega of Rock and Roll,” and the “Father of Rock n’ Roll,” musician Chuck Berry died at age 90 on Saturday. St. Louis officers responded to a medical emergency at his house and found him unresponsive inside, where resuscitation efforts failed. Berry was born in 1926 to parents Henry and Martha, and was inspired to learn the guitar after signing in a high school talent show. From there, his songs rose through the echelons of rock classics, weaving in tales of the segregated African American population in overt ways. Berry earned many honors including a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement and a Kennedy Center Honors Award.
