Senior Adviser Promotes Ivanka Trump’s Line, Sparks Outrage
Kellyanne Conway, a senior adviser to the President, told viewers of Fox News to go out and purchase items from Ivanka Trump’s line, which was dropped from Nordstrom last week due to brand performance issues. Ethics organizations, lawyers, and other concerned citizens quickly reported Conway’s comment to the Office of Government Ethics, claiming that Conway’s comment broke a law that keeps government officials from promoting brands or products in official interviews. While the Office noted their concerns, they also stated that they do not have the power to directly discipline Conway. Conway’s comments are only the latest in a string of controversial comments involving Ivanka’s brand, including tweets by President Trump and a campaign called #grabyourwallet that encourages consumers to boycott the brand.
