First Transgender Boy Scout Joins Following Policy Changes
A New Jersey 9-year-old has become the first transgender member of the Boy Scouts of America. Joe Maldonado joined Pack 20 Tuesday, a week after the organization changed its policy to allow transgender children. Maldonado had been banned from a previous pack, Pack 87 in Secaucus, last year before the policy change. His mother said that she did not want her son to return to the pack in Secaucus because parents complained to scouting officials about him.
