The 85th Texas Legislature Is Underway
The 85th Session of the Texas Legislature was gaveled in last Tuesday at noon. While the workings of the State Legislature of Texas is different in a few key ways from Congress, what goes on in this session will probably impact the citizens of Texas more than what goes on in Congress. The lower the number of a bill, the more important it is to the legislature. Voter ID laws, the “bathroom bill” and debates about sanctuary cities are predicted to be the most contentious. Also, Comptroller Glenn Hegar has presented the Texas budget for 2018-2019, which will total $105 billion, $2 billion less than in 2016.
