Free College in San Francisco
On Monday, San Francisco’s mayor, Ed Lee, announced that the city would make the City College of San Francisco free for all residents. This opportunity will be available to all residents who have lived in San Francisco for at least one year, regardless of income, starting next fall. The city plans to cover the $46-per-credit fees by providing $5.4 million annually. The program will be funded by a tax on properties sold for $5 million or higher, which was approved by voters in the November elections. Low-income, full-time students, who’s fees are already waived by the state, will also receive $500 annually for other school expenses.
