President Trump's announcement yesterday that he will rescind protections from the Obama administration for transgender students (that had allowed them to use bathrooms corresponding with their gender identity) will certainly be added to his list of controversial decisions.  Top civil rights officials from the Justice Department and the Education Department explained their reasoning behind their decision, stating that the Obama administration’s policy was brought about “without due regard for the primary role of the states and local school districts in establishing educational policy.”  Recently confirmed Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos was initially opposed to the decision, afraid that it could potentially lead to more discrimination, bullying, and harassment.
