Department of Homeland Security Outlines Plan
The Department of Homeland Security released two memorandums which outlined their plans to enforce the Trump administration’s immigration policies on Tuesday. John Kelly, the Secretary of Homeland Security, wrote that the execution of the country’s immigration laws is best achieved by enforcing them to the fullest extent. Under the previous administrations of Bush and Obama, these laws were in place but were exercised under fiscal and humanitarian limitations. Trump’s policies seek to increase the resources for border patrol agents so that they can fully exercise the authority of these immigration laws and remove many undocumented immigrants from the country. Critics say that this will force undocumented immigrants even further into the shadows as their fear of deportation grows.
