Boy Scouts Now Accepting Transgender Boys
The Boy Scouts of America will now be accepting members based on their gender identity, not their biological sex, which will allow transgender boys to join. Following other youth organizations, such as the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts have now created a transgender-friendly membership policy. This acceptance comes after an 8-year-old Cub Scout in New Jersey stated that he was removed from the organization for being transgender. Although this instance was not specifically cited in the case statement, the Chief Scout Executive Michael Surbaugh mentioned that the Boy Scouts of America have been “challenged by a very complex topic… the issue of gender identity.”
