Trump Nominates Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court
On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump announced his pick to fill the vacated ninth seat of the Supreme Court. His nomination is Judge Neil Gorsuch, a judge on the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. This nomination comes almost a year following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia on February 13, 2016. Since then, the Supreme Court has only had eight of its usual nine justices occupying the highest court of the land. Gorsuch’s conservative background has garnered a comparison between him and the late Justice Scalia. It will be up to the U.S. Senate to confirm Gorsuch’s nomination, which should take place some time in April if everything goes as scheduled.
