Middle East Mayhem
Saudi Arabia and Iran have long been thought of as rivals in the Middle East, and now Lebanon has been thrust into the middle of their conflict. On Monday, Saudi Arabia accused Lebanon of declaring war following a number of recent attacks by the Lebanese Shi‘ite group Hezbollah. In addition, a Saudi-led military coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen said ports of entry to the Arabian Peninsula country would be closed to prevent the flow of arms to the Houthis from Iran. These announcements come in the aftermath of power shifting events over the weekend, when 11 Saudi princes, including the monarchy’s most well-known businessman, Alwaleed Bin Talal, were arrested on corruption charges.
