Senator Al Franken Accused of Sexual Assault
Minnesota Senator Al Franken was accused of sexual assault on Monday by news anchor Leann Tweeden. Tweeden stated Franken forcibly kissed her without her consent and groped her while she was sleeping, which he had someone photograph, during a USO tour in 2006. Franken apologized once the allegations broke stating, “I respect women. I don’t respect men who don’t. And the fact that my own actions have given people a good reason to doubt that makes me feel ashamed.” In response to these allegations, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have both called on the Senate Ethics Committee to review these claims against Franken, in which the Senator said he would comply.
