Nationalist Marches Interrupt Poland’s Independence Day Celebrations
Last Saturday, close to 60,000 far-right protesters marched through Warsaw, Poland during their Independence Day celebrations. Many demonstrators were waving Polish flags and red flares, wore masks, chanted “Death to enemies of the homeland,” and held signs that read “Pray for Islamic Holocaust,” among other hateful terms. The protest was organized by a group called National Radical Camp who are against Muslim immigration, gay rights, the European Union, and anything that might go against Polish Catholic values. Violence and protests have marked Poland’s Independence Day events in the past, but experts are saying Saturday’s gathering was one of the largest far-right protests held in Europe in recent years.
