Tech Ads and Russian Vlads
On Tuesday and Wednesday, company officials from Facebook, Google, and Twitter testified before Congress over the role their platforms played in spreading Russian disinformation during the 2016 Election. Frustrated lawmakers from both parties grilled officials over their apparent mishandling of the situation, highlighting the national security risks at stake. Most of the criticism was aimed at Facebook, which announced that roughly 126 million Americans saw posts backed by Russia. This comes after Facebook initially brushed off allegations of fake news after the election.
