Last month, Amazon announced plans to open a new headquarters, called HQ2. Amazon invited cities to submit proposals detailing why they should host the new headquarters, which will cost more than $5 billion to build and operate, and add around 50,000 jobs for the host city. Several cities have already submitted their proposals and did so in interesting ways. Tucson, Arizona sent Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos a 21-foot cactus as a gift to get Bezos and his team’s attention, while Birmingham, Alabama installed 3 huge Amazon delivery boxes around the city in an effort to lure the company there. The Texas cities of Austin, Dallas, and Frisco have also expressed interest in hosting the new headquarters.
