Whitefish? No Grid. Puerto Rico’s Power Problem.
On Sunday, Puerto Rico’s government cancelled a controversial 300-million-dollar contract that was awarded to a Whitefish Energy Holdings. The young Montana-based firm had only two full-time employees when they were awarded the contract. Congress, as well as the island’s governor and San Juan’s mayor, have been very critical last week over potential corruption over the noncompetitive bid and work from Whitefish. Amid the scandal, the island territory has yet to restore power to the homes of 75-80 percent of desperate residents. Many members of Congress have called for an investigation into the Whitefish Energy Holdings and the awarding process.
