US and Israel to Leave UNESCO

Shortly after the United States announced on Thursday that it will be leaving UNESCO, Israel declared it will join the U.S. in withdrawing from the UN’s cultural organization. UNESCO is a multilateral body which promotes educational and development improvements in countries around the world, and it establishes world heritage sites like the US Grand Canyon. President Trump cited anti-Israel bias as the reason for his dislike of UNESCO, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the decision to pull out “brave and moral.” The withdrawal will not go into full effect until the end of December 2018.
