Trump’s First Days in Office Spur Lawsuits

Trump’s First Days in Office Spur Lawsuits

After eleven days as President of the United States, Donald Trump has been named in forty-one lawsuits.  Most of the suits are regarding President Trump’s executive order, which issued a travel ban on seven Muslim-majority nations.  Several civil rights organizations have filed class-action lawsuits on behalf of the individuals that have been detained at airports across America.  The Council on American Islamic Relations termed the immigration order a “Muslim ban” saying that it violates the Constitution’s Equal Protection clause.  President Trump, who supported a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country during his 2016 campaign, denies that his immigration policy discriminates on the basis of religion.  Trump also faces suits regarding his business’s potential conflicts of interest and another executive order, which targets sanctuary cities.
