On Monday evening President Trump fired acting attorney general Sally Yates. This came after an action Yates took earlier that day to order Justice Department attorneys not to defend Trump’s executive order immigration ban because she was unsure the order was lawful. Dana Boente will replace Yates as acting attorney general and has made a statement that he will enforce the executive order. Many State Department diplomats are joining Yates in speaking against the executive order, and are taking their concerns to senior leaders in the State Department. Others outside of the capital including the American Civil Liberties Union are threatening to take legal action if Trump doesn’t change the policy.
