Texas Representative Calls Wall a Waste
On Friday, Will Hurd, R-Texas and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, appeared on CNN and described Trump’s proposed border wall as “wasting hard earned taxpayer dollars.” Congressman Hurd represents the 23rd Congressional District of Texas, which spans from San Antonio to El Paso and contains the largest portion of the U.S.-Mexico border. He has also called the wall “too expensive” and “unnecessary” in the past. This is probably because Texas’s border with Mexico is quite different than the other US border states. As opposed to a straight border, it is very squiggly since it follows the natural features of the land. Because of that, and because Texas was never a federal territory, meaning the government doesn’t have much federal land there, building a wall would require the two difficult tasks of taking privately owned land and redrawing the border in Texas. We’ll see how Texas takes it.
