Trailblazing Actress Mary Tyler Moore Dies
Mary Tyler Moore, one of television’s first female stars, died yesterday at the age of 80. Over her very accomplished acting career, she won seven Emmys and was nominated for an Oscar. She is most known for playing the role of Laura Petrie, the wife on one of the top rated TV shows of the 1960s, the "The Dick Van Dyke Show," and for her own groundbreaking show, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” Many passionate fans hailed “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” as the first modern woman's sitcom. Current female media star Ellen DeGeneres offered her condolences in a tweet describing her as someone who “changed the world for all women.”
