California Community Outraged After Police Shooting
On Tuesday afternoon, a woman called 911 reporting that her brother was “not acting like himself,” but said that he was mentally ill and unarmed. When the police arrived 50 minutes later, the man was pacing, kept his hands in his pocket and was shot dead by one police officer, while the other fired his Taser. Protesters in the El Cajon, California area gathered and blocked an interstate exit. Rev. Shane Harris, president of the San Diego chapter of the National Action Network, encouraged a federal investigation into the shooting due to the lack of trust the community has in the prosecutor to investigate the police.
