Officer Charged for Unarmed Shooting

Earlier this week, Tulsa police released a video of the shooting of Terence Crutcher. Police had been called to the scene because there was a car in the middle of the road. Once they arrived, they called for backup; their dash cam, as well as a police helicopter, recorded the incident. The officers are seen moving toward Crutcher, a black man, who is backing towards his car with his hands up. He is then tasered by one officer and fatally shot by Officer Betty Shelby, 30 seconds after backup arrives. Shelby’s attorney states Crutcher had refused to comply with orders and was about to reach in the car window before he was shot. Yesterday, Officer Shelby was charged with manslaughter in the first degree, facing 4 years to life in prison.
