Keith Lamont Scott was shot and killed by Charlotte Police on Tuesday afternoon, sparking protests around the city that have continued into Wednesday night. Although the details of the incident remain unclear, police say that Scott was armed with a handgun and warned repeatedly to put the weapon down. Scott’s death comes in the wake of the shooting death of an unarmed black man by police captured on video in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Despite pleas from Scott’s family, protests have shut down highways and businesses throughout the North Carolina city, and have injured 16 officers. The officer responsible for the death of Scott has been placed on administrative leave, and the Department of Justice has opened an investigation into the case.
