Twenty-one children, ages eight to nineteen, are suing the federal government over its inaction to prevent climate change. They argue that climate change will mostly affect the generations to come, and, by not acting, the government is violating the constitutional rights of young people, specifically the right to life, liberty and property. The suit’s defendants include many politicians and institutions including President Obama, the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. There was a pretrial on Wednesday where the government argued for the case to be dismissed, but it is not clear when this decision will be reached.
