Cease-Fire Implemented in Syria
After negotiations by Russia and the US, a cease-fire took effect in Syria yesterday evening. This follows a weekend of intensified fighting in the country’s civil war. While a few exceptions to the cease-fire were noted – like the recently attacked city of Aleppo – calm has been reported across the area. In hopes of keeping peace, the cease-fire was timed to coincide with the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. This second cease-fire this year is seen to be “the last chance that one has to save a united Syria.”
