North Carolina Officer Not Charged in Shooting
Brentley Vinson, the North Carolina Police Officer who fatally shot Keith Scott in September will not be charged. District Attorney R. Andrew Murray described the shooting as “justified” in a press conference on Wednesday. The police released a photo of an ankle holster and a loaded gun with Scott’s fingerprints and say that Scott pointed a weapon at them before being shot, however Scott’s family still disputes that he was armed at the time of his death. Charlotte was filled with heated and violent protests in the days after the shooting, as focus on how police use deadly force continues to grow. Scott is one of 875 people killed by police this year.
