As freezing temperatures and promises of snow begin to sweep across the north, the Governor of North Dakota has called for protestors of the Dakota Pipeline to evacuate immediately in the interest of safety. The protest has been a great cause of controversy since the summer, as the Sioux of Standing Rock and their allies attempt to protect sacred tribal grounds and drinking water against the possibility of the 1,172 miles of oil pipeline across North Dakota and three other states. Regardless of conditions, members of the tribe have sworn to remain at Standing Rock indefinitely.
