Airplane Crash Causes Tragedy in South America
Seventy-six people were killed when an airplane crashed into a hillside in Colombia on Monday evening. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but it is known that the plane had declared an emergency, then lost communication abilities. Of the five survivors, three were members of the Chapecoense soccer team, which was being transported to Medellin International Airport. The soccer team was scheduled to compete in the final leg of Copa Sudamericana, one of the most important soccer championships in South America. Now, after this tragedy, the team’s would-be opponent, Atletico Nacional, is calling for the Chapecoense team to be declared the Copa Sudamericana 2016 champions.
