10 Shot in New Orleans
Early Sunday, ten people were shot – one of them fatally – in New Orleans' French quarter. The shooting took place amid the festivities of the Bayou Classic Weekend, four days celebrating a college football rivalry. The victims, two women and eight men, were between the ages of 20 and 37. One victim died in the hospital from his injuries. The popular area was especially crowded due to the Thanksgiving holiday and the football game. Police stationed in the area for the event ran to the scene after hearing the shot, arresting two men at the scene for illegally carrying weapons. “It's totally unacceptable,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu, “the violence just continues to spin out of control, with people brandishing weapons whenever they think they can.”
