Indian Railcar Crashes; Kills 115
Early Sunday morning in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh, fourteen carriages of the Indore-Patna Express derailed near the city of Kanpur. So far, the death toll has reached 115 and the injured have reached 150 in number. The counts are still climbing as crews search the wreckage. The cause of the crash is still not known, though there have been reports that a fracture in the track could be to blame. After years of railway accidents on one of the largest railway systems in the world, the government announced last year that investments would be made to modernize and expand the system. As the wreckage is still being sifted through, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he is "anguished beyond words on the loss of lives.”
