History Has Its Eyes on You
Once again, the cast of Hamilton was not throwing away its shot. At Friday’s evening performance of the Broadway hit, Vice President-elect Mike Pence was met with boos as he entered the theater. At the curtain call, Brandon V. Dixon – who plays Aaron Burr – silenced the audience’s growing boos to give a statement. Dixon thanked Pence for coming and asked that he stay to listen. He expressed the cast’s hope that the show “inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us.” The address from the famously diverse cast quickly went viral, spawning hashtags like #BoycottHamilton, statements touting and condemning the cast’s actions, and responses from President-elect Trump demanding apologies from the cast. Many say this controversy served to overshadow Trump’s settlement for $25 million over the Trump University fraud case. Dixon later told Broadway.com “I truly think we had an effect…What better place than on this stage telling this story with these people?”
