Powerful Earthquake Leaves Thousands Stranded in New Zealand
Thousands of residents and tourists in New Zealand have been left stranded and frightened following a damaging earthquake on Sunday night that has claimed the lives of at least two people and destroyed various critical railroads and highways. The 7.8-magnitude quake has also triggered various small tsunamis and aftershocks that have made relief efforts much more challenging. In the coming days, military aircraft will be bringing in supplies while also ferrying out hundreds of stranded tourists. A challenging weather forecast with winds of more than 90 mph for the region in the days ahead will likely have a negative impact on how effective and efficient the relief operations will be.
