11-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Bullied into Suicide
Bethany Thompson, a sixth grader in Ohio, committed suicide on October 19th after being told she could not hang anti-bullying posters in the hallways of her school. Bethany had survived cancer as a little girl, but was left with a crooked smile because of it, something that made her the victim of playground taunts for years. Bethany’s parents say they knew the bullying was bad, but didn’t realize just how much she was affected by it until it was too late. They are now working to spread the word about the impacts of bullying on social media, and plan to set up a scholarship in Bethany’s honor.
